Cloth caps made by Wilson, Matheson & Co, clothing manufacturers, are illustrated in the firm's wholesale and export trade list c 1872. Influences from many different countries are in evidence.
The cloth cap department on the third floor of the warehouse at 42 Glassford Street produced a variety of cloth, fur and tweed caps and "bunnits" for men and boys at prices and sold them to retailers at prices ranging from 18 shillings (90p) to 90 shillings (£4.50) per dozen.
