Scotch bonnets made by Wilson, Matheson & Co, clothing manufacturers, are illustrated in the firm's wholesale and export trade list c 1872. In case the appearance was not sufficient to identify the type of bonnet (or bunnit, to use local parlance!), they were generally given names with Scottish connections.

The Scotch bonnet department on the third floor of the warehouse at 42 Glassford Street produced a variety of bonnets, tam o'shanters and glengarries at prices ranging from 13 shillings (65p) to 62 shillings (£3.10) per dozen.
