Pavilion Theatre

The Pavilion Theatre has been described as "the last of Britain's music halls". Long-running summer shows pulled in crowds to see local favourites such as Tommy Morgan (whose ashes were scattered on the Pavilion roof), Jack Milroy, Sydney Devine and Lex McLean (1908-1975), the latter shown here.

Other stars who have experienced success at the Pavilion include Billy Connolly, Lulu, Andy Cameron, Sheena Easton and hypnotist Robert Halpern. Comedy dramas such as Tony Roper's The Steamie have also featured strongly.

Having survived a financial crisis in 1981 the Pavilion continues to prosper in the early 21st century as one of Britain's few surviving and successful commercial, unsubsidised theatres.
