John Mossman (1817-1890) was a sculptor.
Mossman was the eldest brother in a family of sculptors and completed many famous statues, busts and friezes for public buildings and spaces in Glasgow. His work included the statues of Sir Robert Peel, Thomas Campbell and David Livingstone in George Square (the latter was removed to Cathedral Square in 1959); the statues of James Lumsden and Dr Norman Macleod in Cathedral Square; and a bust of Queen Victoria in the McLellan Galleries (1855). He was a founder member of the Glasgow School of Art where he taught modelling and was a partner with his brother George in J & G Mossman.
