Thomas Edward Thorpe (1845-1925) was Professor of Chemistry at the Andersonian University, 1870-1874.
Thorpe came to the University from Owen's College in Manchester, and was a popular lecturer. He was also appointed the city's Analyst, which involved him in investigations of adulterated foodstuffs. He left Glasgow in 1874 to become Professor of Chemistry at the Yorkshire College in Leeds, and went on to receive a knighthood.
