William Miller

William Miller (1817-1892) was a merchant and a councillor.

Miller worked for the turkey-red dyers Archibald Orr Ewing & Co, but retired in 1855. An attempt to re-enter the dyeing business in the 1870s with the partnership Miller, Higgenbotham & Co was a failure, and he became manager of a bank in Hillhead.

In 1873 The Bailie described Miller as "dull, pre-eminently respectable and pliable, and yet looking clever at one and the same time." He held many offices with the Town Council, including that of City Treasurer, 1872-1875.
