Munitions worker

A female munitions worker at Lambhill Iron Works during the First World War. She appears to be making bomb cases.

Lambhill Iron Works was built in 1881 by R Laidlaw & Sons, gas and water engineers. During the First World War the factory manufactured munitions for the war effort, as did many others in Glasgow. Women were recruited to fill the places of men who had enlisted in the armed forces.
