A Thomas Annan photograph of a portrait of William Murray (1790-1858). The painting was by Sir Daniel Macnee, "Prince of Scottish Portrait Painters".
Murray, an ironmaster, was a keen supporter of the Glasgow School of Art and a fellow of the Geological Society of Glasgow which was formed shortly before his death in 1858. He was a president of Anderson's University.
