John Ure

John Ure (1824-1901) was a miller, a flour merchant and a councillor.

Ure was elected to the Town Council in 1856 and served as the head of the Sanitary Department (he was instrumental in securing the appointment of William T Gairdner as Glasgow's first Medical Officer of Health) and Chairman of the Health Committee of the Police Board. He lived in Helensburgh.
