Society of Journeymen Bakers' box

The trades box for the Society of Journeymen Bakers in Glasgow. Instituted on 4 October 1765, this friendly society survived until the early 20th century.

There are two figures of bakers depicted on the box, one either side of a coat of arms featuring three sheaves of wheat and a set of scales. The figure on the left holds a wooden paddle which was used to take loaves from bakers' ovens, while the figure on the right holds a flail for threshing wheat.
