A photograph of a "Lister Ward" in Glasgow Royal Infirmary's Surgical Block. Joseph Lister was the visiting surgeon in charge of wards 24 (for men) and 25 (for women), 1861-1869, as well as a chronic condition ward in the Adam building.
The ward appears to be clean, bright and airy, and there are cut flowers in vases. There are two nurses standing by a bed on the left. The woman in the centre of the photograph may be Matron.
