Netherton

Netherton c 1830.

This image shows a view of fields with farm buildings to the right, including a ruined cottage. The Ordnance Survey map of this area for 1864 indicates that all the buildings had become ruinous. The site of the farm is at Netherton Braes, in an area covered by woodland at the beginning of the 21st century.

This watercolour is one of a series painted by an unknown artist working for the Maxwell family. The paintings depict various buildings and landscapes on the Pollok Estate which was owned by the Maxwells.
