Kinning House

Kinning House c 1830.

The house and associated buildings are in the background behind a road (probably Paisley Road) and fence. The area retained a rural character in the 1830s but within forty years it had become crowded with industrial buildings and tenements. The old buildings at Kinning House were demolished in 1872.

This watercolour is one of a series painted by an unknown artist working for the Maxwell family. The paintings depict buildings and scenery on Pollok Estate and are a unique record of a large west of Scotland country estate.
