A watercolour showing Arden farm on the Pollok Estate c 1830. A well-dressed man sits in the foreground talking to a farmer with a cart and two horses. Behind is Arden farm and a view of the surrounding farmlands.
Arden farm stood near the bend of the Auldhouse Burn at Arden. On the other side of the river was the Thornliebank Dye, Print and Bleachworks, founded in 1778.
This painting is one of a series made for the Maxwell family by an unknown artist. The images show different parts of the Pollok Estate and are a unique record of an early 19th century country estate in the west of Scotland.
