Jimmy Logan was the third of five children born into a Glasgow theatrical family, all of whom became involved in show business. In a career spanning over six decades, he brought laughter and entertainment to millions of people through his roles in pantomime, variety and drama.
Early success in radio comedy led to regular appearances on television, films and stage, including a ten year run in the popular Five Past Eight show at the Alhambra Theatre. He directed as well as performed in the Royal Scottish Variety Performance of 1983. He was a respected serious actor, winnning critical acclaim in plays such as Death of a Salesman, The Entertainer and The Ship.
Overcoming setbacks in his personal and financial affairs, such as a ruinous investment in the Metropole Theatre, Logan had one of his greatest successes in later life with his portrayal of Sir Harry Lauder in a one-man show.
