The Blythswood Shipbuilding Co was founded in 1919 by Hugh MacMillan and Donald Bremner. Both men had shipbuilding experience and believed that they had spotted a niche in the oil tanker-building market. They adopted a business strategy of building cheap but graceful ships and had orders on their books before the yard was even open. Although successful for many years, the Blythswood yard site was sold in 1964 to neighbours Yarrow & Co.
In 1955 Partick Camera Club set out to create a photographic survey of Glasgow. As the project progressed, other camera clubs joined and each was allocated a district of the city to photograph. Glasgow Museums exhibited the photographs at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and at the People's Place, and in 1956 the exhibition was shown at the Palace of Art in Bellahouston Park. The photographs are now part of Glasgow Museums' collections.
