A portrait of Captain Robert Maxwell (1770-1796) by an unknown artist.
Captain Maxwell was the second son of Sir James Maxwell (d 1785), 6th Baronet of Nether Pollok and his wife Lady Frances (d 1818). He married his cousin Margaret (d 1862), the daughter of Sir William Cunningham-Fairlie of Robertland (d 1811). She re-married in 1800, four years after Captain Maxwell's early death at the age of 26.
