Roses, painted 1889 by Stuart Park (1862-1933).

The painter was born in Kidderminster, the son of a carpet designer. He studied art in Paris and Glasgow and began to exhibit in Glasgow in 1883. He was one the group of artists known as the Glasgow Boys.

Park is best known for the flower paintings which he created from 1888 until his death. Although the later works became repetitive, his early flower paintings have been described as exquisite and illustrate the new decorative style which many of the Glasgow Boys were developing around this time.
