Motoring clothes

Two models wearing motoring clothes from the early 20th century pose in front of a motor car from that period.

The man in the photograph is wearing a leather motoring coat made in London and his female companion models a pale green two-piece linen dress and a cream coat. The dress was made for a Glasgow lady to wear on a visit to London.

Glasgow Museums have an extensive and fascinating collection of historical clothing. Mannequins are preferred to human models when photographing period clothes in the 21st century, to reduce the risk of damage to the fragile fabrics.
