Mackintosh Chair

A chair designed in 1904 by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) for the Hill House in Helensburgh.

In 1902 Walter Blackie, a well-known Glasgow publisher, asked Mackintosh to design a house in Helensburgh. The commission included the building itself, the gardens, fittings and fixtures, interior decor and many pieces of furniture too. This chair is just one of the pieces which Mackintosh produced for the house, and was intended for use with a writing desk.
