Furniture from Hous'hill

Two chairs and a table designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) for Hous'hill.

In 1904 Mackintosh began work redecorating the interior of Hous'hill, the home in Nitshill of the celebrated tea room owner Catherine Cranston (1849-1934) and her husband. Although the project did not involve a great deal of interior reconstruction, Mackintosh still managed to stamp his unique personality on the house. As well as re-working permanent features such as fireplaces, he also designed many pieces of furniture for the rooms.

Cranston's husband died in 1917 and she sold the house three years later. The building changed hands several times before being destroyed by fire.
