City of Glasgow Adult Total Temperance Association certificate.
This temperance society was founded in 1836. Robert McAlister joined the Cowcaddens branch two years later in July 1838, promising to abstain from "ale, porter, cider, wine, ardent spirits and all other intoxicating liquors" except in special circumstances.
The certificate bears Glasgow's coat of arms and images of well-known city landmarks.
