Groom holding horse

A groom holding a horse, photographed by Duncan Brown c 1858. Many of Glasgow's wealthier families maintained their own stables in the 19th century, keeping horses for riding or to pull private carriages.

Duncan Brown (1819-1897) was a talented amateur photographer whose work documents aspects of Glasgow life from the 1850s until the 1890s.
