Cathcart from the castle

The view from Cathcart Castle looking north, photographed by Duncan Brown in the 1880s or 1890s.

The photograph shows the view looking down from the castle past the row of houses and gardens on Greenock Avenue towards the Old Snuff Mill Bridge over the White Cart Water. Next to the bridge on the right is Lindsay House and to the left behind the trees are old mill buildings.

Duncan Brown (1819-1897) was a talented amateur photographer whose work documented aspects of Glasgow life from the 1850s until the 1890s.
