Crossmyloof

A row of small houses in Crossmyloof, photographed by Duncan Brown c 1880s or 1890s.

These houses were built in the village in the early part of the 18th century. The nearest one is thatched, and accommodates a slater's business and a corner shop. In a 19th century painting of this street by D Gorman, Peter Campbell's name is shown above the shop. There are setts and tram tracks running down the middle of the road, but the lack of overhead wires indicates that the tramways had not yet been electrified.

Duncan Brown (1819-1897) was a talented amateur photographer whose work documents aspects of Glasgow life from the 1850s until the 1890s.
