Wellbank Laundry c 1880s photographed by Duncan Brown. The catalogue entry for this photograph states that it was taken in Crossmyloof. However, an entry in the Post Office Glasgow Directory for 1891 lists Wellbank Laundry in Bengal Street, Pollokshaws.
A horse and cart wait outside the laundry, which is dwarfed by the huge telephone pole in the street. A plasterer's premises can be seen through the trees in the distance. Tram tracks, held in place by stone setts, run up the middle of the road.
Duncan Brown (1819-1897) was a talented amateur photographer whose work documents aspects of Glasgow life from the 1850s until the 1890s.
