Bronze age pottery

An Irish bowl food vessel uncovered at Scotstoun.

Irish bowl food vessels date from the earlier Bronze Age (between 2700 and 1400 BC). They are usually found in burials, although a few have been found in the ruins of settlements. The largest concentrations are found in the north-east of Ireland with lesser concentrations around Dublin and Wicklow and in the coastal areas of the north-east and south-west of Scotland. This distribution suggests that the manufacture and use of these objects spread along coastal trade routes.
