Washing on Glasgow Green

Washing on Glasgow Green, early 20th century.

Having finished doing the laundry, this girl is taking the opportunity to clean up her little brother as well. Her wash board, used to scrub dirt from clothing, can be seen lying on the grass by the tub. All the space on the public washing lines is taken up, so towels and items of clothing are lying on the grass to dry. The square tower of the Greenhead Public Baths and Washing-house can be seen in the distance above the washing lines.
