Hardware stall

Barrows in the Calton, c 1916. The photograph is from a series taken by Peter Fyfe, Glasgow's Chief Sanitary Inspector.

The barrow on the right appears to be piled high with second-hand clothing, including petticoats. Kettles and other items of hardware are for sale on the barrow on the left. Clocks, suits and coats are hung on display on the wall behind.

Many Glaswegians could not afford to buy new clothing and household goods, but were able to acquire second-hand clothes, hardware, furniture and furnishings from street traders.
