The dining room at Pollok House.
Pollok House was built in the middle of the 18th century for Sir John Maxwell and is in the neo-classical style fashionable at that period. While the exterior was austere and unassuming, with very little decoration, the interior had good quality, flamboyant and stylish plasterwork as shown here in the dining room. Set into the wall on the right is the buffet (a recessed cupboard for china, plates and other tableware), a traditional feature of Scottish interior decor.
Pollok House is now managed by the National Trust for Scotland and is open to the public throughout the year. The house has been furnished in the manner of its Edwardian heyday.
