A colour lithograph poster by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) for The Scottish Musical Review, 1896.
This is one of four posters designed by Mackintosh. It depicts a woman with four birds standing silhouetted against a large halo, with strange circular symbols above her head. The poster was unusual for its time and attracted hostile criticism. The magazine The Studio leapt to Mackintosh's defence but was forced to admit that "Mr Mackintosh's posters may be somewhat trying to the average person".
