Weaver Street

Derelict slum dwellings in Weaver Street, 1914. It is said that the portrait painter Sir Daniel Macnee (1806-1882) attended classes in a school there when he was a young boy. In the 1850s Father Chisholm ran St Mungo's School in a room he rented in the building - the school was the predecessor of St Mungo's Academy, established in 1858 at Garngad Hill (now Roystonhill).

The buildings on Weaver Street were cleared after the First World War and the area is now at the heart of the University of Strathclyde's campus.
