A birthday card sent to John Waterson by his Socialist Sunday School.
Socialist Sunday Schools were an outcome of the London Dock Strike of 1892, when Mrs Mary Gray began teaching the children of striking dockers about the causes and consequences of poverty. The idea caught the imagination of social reformers and more than 200 Socialist Sunday Schools had been set up in the UK by 1914.
