Mrs Sutherland arriving at Renfrew Airport in 1938.
In 1938 the Empire Exhibition was held in Glasgow's Bellahouston Park. One of the most popular exhibits was An Clachan, a reconstructed Highland village. Mrs Sutherland was one of the traditional crafts workers who demonstrated their skills at the clachan, having flown south with her spinning wheel on a Scottish Airways flight from Lerwick in the Shetland Isles.
