International Exhibition, 1901

The Grand Entrance to the Glasgow International Exhibition of 1901.

The Eastern Palace, with its golden dome, was designed by James Miller in a flamboyant mixture of Oriental and Spanish Renaissance styles. A golden angel was perched on the top of the dome holding a torch lit by electricity, a symbolic gesture at a time when the Corporation was electrifying Glasgow's tramways and rapidly expanding the municipal electricity supply.

This postcard is one of a series advertising Mitchell's "Prize Crop" cigarettes.
