Glasgow Corporation Tramways uniform workshop, 1917.
The Tramways Department employed roughly 7,000 staff by 1911, many of whom required a uniform. The uniform was dark green, the colour having been chosen by the first General Manager, John Young, in 1894. During the First World War conductresses wore green tartan skirts. The tartan fabric can be seen on the shelves here behind the staff.
