Boyd Orr and Maths Buildings

The Boyd Orr Building (left) and Mathematics Building on University Avenue, 1972.

As with many of the University of Glasgow's modern buildings, the Boyd Orr Building (on the left in this picture) reflects contemporary design and the ambitious use of non-traditional materials. A massive reinforced concrete building with glass and aggregate cladding and a copper-faced roof, it is the largest building in Hillhead after the University Library, and almost inevitably is out of proportion with its surroundings.

On the right side of this photograph is the Mathematics Building, comprising three linked blocks designed by J L Gleave & Partners and completed in 1969.
