The first Austin Reed store opened in London's Fenchurch Street in 1900 as a specialist menswear store. The company implemented the latest American methods of retailing with great success and by 1911 it had opened a flagship store on Regent Street, London, dedicated to tailoring, ready-to-wear, and grooming. Austin Reed's opened branches across Britain, including one at Gordon Street in Glasgow, and expanded its range to include women's as well as men's clothing.
