Advertisement for John Smith & Son (Glasgow), booksellers, in Glasgow University Magazine 18 October 1922.

According to the company, John Smith & Son Bookshops was founded in 1751 although this shop front gives the date as 1742. It is Glasgow's oldest bookshop chain and at the time of this advertisement the firm had premises on Gibson Street, University Avenue and St Vincent Street. By the beginning of 2003 there were twenty-three shops in Scotland, England and Botswana. Most of the shops are located on university campuses, specialising in the requirements of students and the academic community.
