Advertisement for W W Scott, scientific instrument retailers, in Glasgow University Magazine 14 December 1898. Scott had premises in Sauchiehall Street and was the Glasgow agent for W Watson & Sons of London, one of Britain's largest retailers of microscopes and scientific apparatus.
This type of advertisement was common in the GUM and was directed at professors, students and others involved in scientific and medical study and research.
