Advertisement for Dawson & McNicoll, outfitters, in Glasgow University Magazine, 16 December 1891.

Dawson & McNicoll were a leading clothing retailers in Glasgow in the 1890s, specialising in the more reasonably-priced end of the market. Their spacious premises on Sauchiehall Street had nine departments supplying gentleman's tailored suits, jackets and overcoats; boy's suits, overcoats, school and college outfits; and ladies coats and jackets.

Students, of course would be the ideal type of customer, and the advertisement stresses fashionable high quality clothing at the lowest prices, both made-to-order and ready-made.
