William Purdie Dickson (1823-1901) was Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism at the University of Glasgow, 1863-1873, and Professor of Divinity, 1873-1895.
Dickson studied Divinity at St Andrews before his appointment to the Glasgow chair. He was also a curator of Glasgow University Library. A noted scholar, he translated Theodor Mommsen's History of Rome and Roman Provinces.
