At first the theatre thrived on productions of Scottish variety performances and of musical comedies like the advertised Stars and Garters, a spin-off from a popular television variety programme. This bill was headlined by Donald Peers (a Welsh pop idol of the 1940s and '50s who had embarked on the comeback trail) and Jack Short (Logan's father) and included Glen Daly, the singer known as "Mr Glasgow".
Logan's Rolls Royce, with its "JL 10" number plate, is parked in front of the theatre. The car was seen as an unnecessary indulgence by some, but Logan told a different story. According to his autobiography, he once traded in his Rolls for a more thrifty and business-like Vauxhall. Thinking that their boss had encountered financial difficulties, the Metropole staff grew concerned for the future of the theatre and their jobs. To put an end to fears and rumours, the theatre owner had to find himself a new Rolls Royce.
