The neon sign for the Logan Family, who topped the bill at Summer Seasons at the Metropole in Stockwell Street during the late 1940s and 1950s.
The Logan Family consisted of Pa and Ma and their children Jimmy, Buddy, Bert and Heather, sometimes referred to as the Scottish Theatrical Dynasty. Pa and Ma Logan (Jack Short and May Dalziel) had made a career as a singing and comedy duo, and teamed up with members of their family in 1947 as the Logan Family in the first of six highly successful summer seasons at the Metropole.
Jimmy enjoyed a successful solo career as an actor and comedian. In 1964 he bought the old Empress Theatre in St George's Road (which had been renamed the Metropole in 1962, after the closure of the Metropole in Stockwell Street) and managed it for six years in an attempt to create a home for Scottish variety and comedy productions.
