Ruchill House

Ruchill House photographed in 1870 by Thomas Annan. The house is said to have been built c 1700 and greatly extended in the early 19th century and again some time after 1850.

The Ruchill (or "Roughill") estate was owned by the Peadie family in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The house is thought to have been built for Lord Provost James Peadie Snr (d 1717). Allan Dreghorn (1706-1764) acquired the estate in 1749 and he sold off the land that was later given the name Kelvinside. In 1893 Ruchill was purchased by Glasgow Corporation from its most recent owner, William James Davidson, and Ruchill Park was laid out on a portion (other portions were reserved for Ruchill Hospital and for a golf course). The house was demolished during or shortly after the First World War.
