Coloured cartoon from the Northern Looking Glass 3 September 1825, the fifth in the series "Essay on Modern Medical Education". Entitled "The Shop", it depicts mischievous students in an apothecary's shop. While a woman customer attempts to buy medicine, one student fires a syringe-full of water at another grinding ingredients with a pestle. Students were notorious for getting up to "high jinks" and their apparent lack of concern for the feelings of the sick.
