Coloured cartoon from the Glasgow Looking Glass 23 July 1825 depicting a crowd enjoying a Punch and Judy show. The booth-owner is preparing to pass round his hat among the crowd, inviting them to pay a coin or two for the show. The audience includes several children, a soldier and a dairymaid with a milk pail on her back.
The cartoonist had announced his intention to visit the Glasgow Fair on Glasgow Green before the publication of this issue, and it seems likely that his visit inspired the drawing.
Punch and Judy shows were an attraction at fairs and other popular gatherings throughout Scotland during the 19th century.
