A handloom weaver operating a dandy loom, 1827.
The dandy loom was invented in 1804 by William Radcliffe. This image had appeared in the Northern Looking Glass in 1825 to illustrate a news story, that prisoners in Glasgow's bridewell had been provided with looms to enable them to earn some money to put by until their release. The prison bars that appeared in the top left corner of the earlier image are omitted from this one, and there is no indication that the weaver is anything other than a free man.
