Levernside Road Shops

New shops and flats built by Glasgow Corporation Housing Department at Levernside Road, Pollok, in 1950. Four double and four single shops were built with six flats on the floor above, entered from a central close.

The roof was of single pitch, with wide overhanging eaves painted in two shades of blue. The gables and front walls up to the level of the shop canopy were of rustic brick, contrasting with the pure white roughcast above. Bright colours were used for the woodwork, lettering and doorways of the shops.

The fitting out of the shops' interiors was a joint project carried out partly by the Housing Department and partly by the shopkeepers themselves. The results were said to have attracted favourable comment from both customers and shopkeepers.
