Govan Workspace

Christopher Tugendhat, Vice-President of the European Commission, shaking hands with Tommy Clark, Chairman of Govan Workspace, in Harmony Row, Govan. Also in the picture, which appeared in the December 1983 issue of Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin, are councillor Pat Keegan, administrator Rosie Swords and manager Pat Cassidy.

The premises at Harmony Row opened in 1981, when financial assistance from the European Development Fund helped towards the cost of converting the former St Anthony's Primary School. Govan Workspace's objective was to provide suitable accommodation for new and existing small businesses in an effort to create jobs in Govan.

Govan Workspace has continued to prosper and expand, helping many small businesses, including DX Communications, a mobile telephone company, which started life in just 200 square feet in 1991 and went on to become one of the UK’s most successful young businesses with a network of 160 stores.
